How to manage (mute) WhatsApp Groups when you are busy

I use WhatsApp and BBM for my daily IM communications and am a part of multiple groups on both. The groups can be pretty crazy when all the participant keep on yapping about a certain topic, especially when you are busy. One thing that I have noticed is that many people quit the groups and then request an invite again after some time. They state that they were busy or resting and the constant notifications were irritating them. It is not always possible to switch your phone to a silent mode since you might be expecting certain important calls or messages.

It is easy to manage the groups in such a situation. WhatsApp has a feature called “Mute” for groups that will disable all notifications for that particular group for the desired time interval. You will still receive the chats and will not lose any previous chats on the group with some “relief” from the unwanted notifications for some time. Depending on you OS you could “mute” the groups by following these easy steps.

iOS Users

  1. Open the group chat.
  2. Tap the group subject to reveal the Group Info screen.
  3. Tap Mute.
  4. Choose a time interval for how long you wish to mute the group.

Android Users

  1. Open the group chat.
  2. Press the [Menu Button] button and select [Mute]
